The Surgeon – Personal Profile

DJ-Mega-meon-Aug-14b_1

David lives in Bristol and outside work he brings the same commitment to sports and outdoor activities as he shows in his medical work. As a keen sportsman and athlete himself, he knows from firsthand experience what a difference a fully working body can make not just to a person’s mobility but to their enjoyment of life. This helps explain his total commitment to improving the effectiveness of orthopaedic surgery.

He has been passionate about sport since he was at school. For 12 years from the age of 15 he played semi-professional basketball in division 1 of the UK’s national league, for Stockport Belgrade and Manchester Giants, and represented England in the under-19s team, English Universities for 4 years and British Universities. He played in the European Cup of Basketball playing internationally in Yugoslavia and Iceland.  He also played county under-19 rugby for Lancashire.

But competitive team sports are not the only activities he enjoys. He loves walking in the hills, and returns annually to the Scottish mountains to tick off a few more Munros. Until 2014 he played team golf at club level with a handicap as low as 5. He is a keen off-piste skier too, and prides himself on having taught one of his sons to the level of a silver grade ski-instructor and having survived a week’s Heli-skiing in the Bugaboo mountains of British Columbia.

personal-pMore recently David has thrown himself into cycling, and has completed many road cycling Sportives – including the 2015 Dragon Ride of 143 miles across the Brecon Beacons, the Bristol Rugby Club 100 challenge, the 2014 Prudential Ride London Challenge and the Tour of Wessex 2014 and 2015.

David has two sons in their 20s. One works as an investment banker in Geneva, while his younger brother has a degree in Genetic Engineering from Imperial College London and is currently studying Medicine.
